BBQ Cook-Off

BBQ

Due to popular demand, CADAH’s spring activity, a BBQ Cook-Off at the Houston Rodeo has been put back to Friday, February 27, 2015.  Tickets will be $85/ person.  All food/alcohol/entertainment is free but does NOT include admission onto the rodeo grounds ($15/person) or parking (up to $30/car depending upon where you park).  We recommend carpooling or leaving your car in Med Center and riding the train.  This is a link to the website for more information about the BBQ Cook-Off:   http://www.dimcookers.com/

Food is served starting at 6 p.m., until the food runs out, but not later than 11 p.m. The bars are fully stocked with beer and liquors.   It is a BBQ cook-off, so all the food will be BBQ.  The band performing will be the Beggars Union, performing from 7:30-11:00 p.m.

Everyone will need to pay full amount to Dr. Spencer Su beforehand.  CADAH will reimburse $40 per members only when they mail in their wristbands.   To sign up, please contact Dr. Spencer Su ASAP at   spencersu@yahoo.com.  Deadline to sign up is February 1, 2015.  First come first serve in case we are oversold.

2014 CADAH President’s letter – Susan H. Yang, DDS

Susan H. Yang

Dear Esteem Colleagues:

It is a great honor to be serving as your president this year. Since our organization was chartered in 1993 we have grown to close to 300 Life-Time members. The purpose of our organization is to promote the education of the medical and dental doctors, students and community health services. We provide a voice for our doctors to express their opinions and establish network among our members. Our medical members are closely affiliated with Harris County Medical Society, Texas Medical Society. Our dental members are active among Greater Houston Dental Society and Texas Dental Association. With the generous support of our local community, dedicated members and related industries, our organization continues to flourish and we are grateful for our achievements.

With hard work of my predecessors- Yvonne Kew and Jay Zhu , we establish our website. We stream lined our member data and with Cynthia Woo’s help, we hired her husband- Andy Chan to serves as our Webmaster and we set up electronic membership payment system. Now, potential members can join our organization with a simple click of finger. My goal for the year is to continue membership growth and increase our website revenue, establish a Help-Wanted section within our website to allow our members to place ads for advertisement for potential associate positions, rental space, and practice sales.

Our monthly CME meeting continues to provide interesting topics to our members along with sampling of fine cuisine at top restaurants throughout the city. For the month of May, our meeting was at Osteria Antica where our members learned about the re-formulation of NSAIDS, which was sponsored by Iroko Pharmaceuticals Inc. For month of June, Michael Yueng-one of our Life-Time member was the speaker on topic of Botox at Charrasco’s. Next up: Personal and Practice Finance at BBVA/Compass Bank- Galleria. Our monthly CME meeting continues to be a draw to members to socialize and network, and it’s possible all due to the hard work and dedication of Lina Ching. She is working double duty as both CME director and President-elect for next year.

This year, we have a very special Key Note Speaker for our Scholarship Gala: Dr. Yuen-Tseh Lee of Academia Sinica of Taiwan. I met with Dr. Lee in Taipei last month and he is excited about our gala. It was a great honor to have a Nobel winner to come to our gala and take part in our celebration. This will be the last year that Dr. Lee travels to Houston. We moved our scholarship gala to March 14, 2015 to accommodate Dr. Lee’s schedule. Therefore, we will have our event in Fung’s Kitchen. The price will be higher due to lack of flexibility of our speaker and facility. I had the pleasure to meeting Dr. Lee in person in Taiwan and hand delivered our invitation and discuss the gala (please see photo) with him. Thanks to Ted Shih for securing Dr. Lee as our keynote speaker.

We have many activities in the planning phase for this upcoming year. Next Up: August Restaurant Month. Location and date will be announced shortly, please be on the lookout for an email announcement. This will be a family outing for our members and sport event in the winter is in the planning phase. Our members may enjoy the additional benefit of CADAH sponsorship. Please be on the lookout in our website in the future.

Once again, thank all of you for your support and making this organization great.

Sincerely,

Susan H. Yang DDS
CADAH-President

Susan G. Komen for the Cure

komen-logo

Good afternoon,

Susan G. Komen for the Cure kicked off the Komen Tissue Bank (KTB) in 2005 at the SuperBowl in Indianapolis. The goal is to provide researchers with healthy blood and breast tissue to use as comparison to diseased tissue in order to identify and understand changes. The purpose is to eradicate breast cancer.

Plan is already underway to host a KTB day on February 28, 2015 at Baylor College of Medicine at the Texas Medical Center. Komen is interested to recruit minority women in Houston. The GOAL is to recruit 200 minority women which includes Latino, African American & Asians (Chinese, Vietnamese, Burnese, etc)

Please feel free to click the follow links to learn more about the project.

http://www.komenindy.org/about-us/news/donating-breast-tissue.html

Would appreciate if you can forward this email to the CADA in Houston because this is such a worthy project and glad that Komen wants to include minority in the study.

Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions because we really would appreciate if the Physicians will spread the words and encourage patients to enroll in this project to find a cure for breast cancer.

Thank you in advance for your assistance.
